A Grand Finale for the V8 Era

As the automotive world prepares for the Goodwood Festival of Speed, McLaren has pulled the curtain back on the 2027 McLaren 788HS. This model serves as the final, track-optimized evolution of a platform that traces its lineage back to the 720S and 765LT, cementing its place as the ultimate iteration of the brand's celebrated V8 supercar series.

Engineering the 'High Sport'

The “High Sport” (HS) badge is reserved for the most exclusive projects from Woking, previously seen on the MP4-12C HS. To earn this title, the M840T 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 underwent significant modifications. By integrating forged aluminum pistons, dual high-flow fuel pumps, and low-inertia twin-scroll turbos, the engine now produces 777 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. A distinct carbon fiber roof snorkel provides direct air intake to the engine, optimizing performance.

Aerodynamic Mastery and Speed

The 788HS is built for the track, and its performance reflects that mission:

  • Acceleration: 0 to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds, with a 0 to 124 mph time of 7.0 seconds.
  • Weight: A dry weight of only 2,789 lbs.
  • Downforce: New race-inspired bodywork, including an F1-style diffuser and a heightened active rear wing, generates 10% more downforce than the 765LT.

While its top speed is slightly lower than the 750S at 205 mph, this trade-off is a purposeful result of the aggressive aerodynamic package designed to maximize grip and cornering stability.

Chassis Refinements

The vehicle's handling characteristics are sharpened through a revised hydraulic linked-loop suspension system. By adjusting damper tuning and spring rates, and dropping the ride height by 5mm, McLaren has achieved superior roll stiffness. The car is anchored by carbon-ceramic brakes and utilizes track-specific Pirelli Trofeo R tires mounted on lightweight center-lock wheels.

Limited Availability and Pricing

Production of the 2027 McLaren 788HS will be strictly limited to 200 units worldwide, divided equally between Coupe and Spider variants. Each vehicle will be handled through the McLaren Special Operations (MSO) division, ensuring a bespoke experience for every owner. With pricing expected to exceed $400,000 before customization, the 788HS is set to be one of the most sought-after collector pieces in recent history.
