According to a report from enthusiast site MoparInsiders, citing anonymous company sources, development for a new Dodge Charger Hellcat is currently underway. While Dodge has not officially confirmed the project, the recent revival of the HEMI V8 makes the return of a top-spec, V8-powered halo car seem plausible.

Circumstantial evidence points to the Hellcat's potential return. Following the backlash and subsequent revival of the HEMI engine, and with Dodge's new "multi-energy" strategy producing both EV and internal combustion Chargers, fans have been clamoring for the high-performance model. Dodge executives have acknowledged the demand for V8 power.

In interviews, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis stated that if the HEMI were to return to cars, it would only be in a Hellcat variant. Chief Matt McAlear also countered previous statements from Stellantis, suggesting a V8 could fit in the new Charger's platform, a claim supported by Dodge's own drag-race car using a HEMI crate motor.

The main question would be the new Hellcat's power output, as the current top Charger models already produce between 550 and 640 horsepower. The last Charger Hellcat produced up to 797 horsepower in its Redeye form.
