The Ford 300 is widely considered one of the most reliable engines ever manufactured. Its status is cemented by widespread anecdotal evidence of units regularly exceeding 400,000 miles of service. Despite this, the engine is not infallible, with cracked castings and head gasket failures occasionally affecting long-term durability.


Ford took a different engineering path with the 300. It utilized a near-square design with a 4.00-inch bore and a 3.98-inch stroke, producing up to 150 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Much like its Chevy counterpart, it hit its peak torque at just 2,000 rpm, emphasizing low-end grunt over high-speed performance.
