According to the most recent APEAL (Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout) study conducted by J.D. Power, drivers are finding more joy in their battery electric vehicles (BEVs) than in traditional gas-powered cars. The data reveals that while satisfaction scores have risen across all vehicle types, BEVs achieved the most significant year-over-year improvement, climbing 22 points.
J.D. Power noted that electric vehicles currently outperform internal combustion engine (ICE) models in nearly every metric evaluated within the study. The most pronounced advantage is found in powertrain satisfaction, where BEVs hold a significant lead of 109 points.

While the Initial Quality Study (IQS) focuses on technical defects and design flaws during the first 90 days, and the Customer Service Index (CSI) evaluates dealership maintenance, the APEAL study takes a different approach. The 2026 US APEAL Study compiled feedback from 78,514 owners of new 2026 model-year vehicles. The survey data was collected between June 2025 and May 2026, focusing on vehicles registered in the preceding 12-month period. By analyzing these responses, automakers can gain valuable insights into which design elements and performance characteristics are effectively fostering brand loyalty among modern car buyers.
