A New Era for Mercedes in Formula 1
Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled its latest Formula 1 safety car, set to replace the outgoing Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. Starting with the Hungarian Grand Prix, the field will be led by the high-performance Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+.
Unrivaled Performance and Technical Upgrades
This model marks the 14th time a Mercedes vehicle has served as the official safety car for the sport. Under the hood lies a potent 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, capable of generating 612 horsepower and 850Nm of torque. Notably, this is the premier instance of an F1 safety car utilizing an all-wheel-drive configuration, powered by the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system. To handle these demands, the vehicle is fitted with an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission and high-performance ceramic composite brakes.
Aerodynamic Enhancements
To ensure peak performance under track conditions, the manufacturer has significantly upgraded the standard production model. According to the company:
«New front splitter, a modified rear wing with an active flap, and aerodynamic elements at the front of the vehicle – known as dive planes – improve stability, particularly through high-speed corners and at high velocities. By directing airflow in a targeted manner, these elements generate additional downforce on the front axle.»
Furthermore, the vehicle incorporates an integrated signaling system within the rear wing, complemented by additional LED lighting to ensure maximum visibility for drivers regardless of weather conditions.
A Milestone Celebration
For its maiden appearance in Hungary, the car will feature a unique anniversary livery. This design commemorates 30 years of Mercedes providing the official safety car fleet for Formula 1. Following a period where duties were shared with Aston Martin, Mercedes has transitioned to become the exclusive provider of both safety and medical vehicles for the current season.
