Updated Design and Styling
Toyota has introduced a mid-cycle refresh for the 2027 Sequoia, aligning the full-size SUV with the design language recently debuted on the Tundra. Designed by the company's CALTY Design Research team in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the updated SUV features a more structured and horizontal front-end aesthetic.
Key exterior enhancements include a redesigned grille, a more prominent lower bumper, and integrated rectangular fog lights. Higher-tier models benefit from an upgraded lighting package, featuring a more powerful LED light bar mounted in the grille and optional fog lamps from RIGID Industries.
Introducing the Trailhunter Package
A major highlight for the 2027 model year is the debut of the Trailhunter trim level for the Sequoia. Positioned to make factory-engineered off-roading more accessible, this package is built upon the popular SR5 grade rather than the top-tier trims.
To enhance trail performance, the Trailhunter replaces the standard suspension with specialized Old Man Emu shocks. The vehicle is also equipped with 18-inch bronze alloy wheels paired with 33-inch Michelin LTX Trail tires. Further off-road hardware includes:
- Enhanced underbody skid plates for better protection.
- Heavy-duty front recovery hooks.
- Standard electronic aids, including a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select, and low-speed Crawl Control.
Enhanced Cabin Technology
Responding to consumer demand, Toyota has made its 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen standard across all 2027 Sequoia models. Powered by AT&T 5G connectivity, the system offers a customizable, smartphone-like interface and an improved voice assistant capable of faster response times to "Hey Toyota" commands.
Additional technology updates include:
- Integrated Drive Recorder: Utilizes the SUV's exterior safety cameras to automatically capture 20-second clips during impacts or manual triggers.
- Advanced Digital Key: Now natively integrated into Apple, Google, and Samsung Wallets, allowing owners to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle, or share access with others.
- Mobile Power: The vehicle retains a 2.4-kW onboard inverter, enabling users to power appliances and tools directly from the hybrid battery.
Safety and Performance
The 2027 Sequoia debuts the new Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 (TSS 4.0) suite. Featuring improved sensors and cameras, the system provides an extensive array of active safety tools, such as Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and Proactive Driving Assist.
Every trim remains powered by the robust 437-hp i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine, coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The lineup includes the SR5 (with optional Trailhunter), 1794 Edition, and TRD models.
Warranty and Availability
The vehicle includes Toyota’s standard 36-month/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Hybrid components are protected for 8 years/100,000 miles, with the battery pack covered by a 10-year/150,000-mile plan. Additionally, ToyotaCare provides complimentary scheduled maintenance for one year or 10,000 miles.
Specific pricing, fuel economy ratings, and towing capacities have yet to be released. Full details are expected to be announced closer to the production launch in the fall of 2026.
